Young Men

Director · Writer

At his backwoods youth reform program, Mark Hickney (David Duchovny) breaks rebellious boys into men. His methods are intense. Maybe abusive. And for some of them, a model they take too much to heart. Sociological horror for the modern age.

A surreal, bittersweet comedy told partly from the point of view of Martin, a philosophizing dog, and his overworked millennial owner Nan (Allison Tolman). Adapted from Hodges' own web series — and the first network series ever to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.

Samm Hodges
About

From the fringe.

After his mother died when he was seven, Samm Hodges' father moved the family to an off-grid cabin in rural Washington — no electricity, no running water. He did his homework by kerosene lamp.

No film school, no way in. Self-taught design work led to motion graphics, then visual effects, then directing big-budget commercials. A web series he made, Downward Dog, became an ABC sitcom. A pandemic-era short, Tender, premiered at Sundance.

"I'm from the shit, and I like people from the shit — and I want to center them."
